Introduction for Hemlock Fir
The Pacific Coast Hemlock commercial groupincludes Western Hemlock
(Tsuga heterophylla) and Amabilis fir (Abies amabilis).The wood is
moderately hard and strong with high bending strength,
shearstrength and stiffness.
Structural lumber - posts and beams, joints,rafters, doors,
windows, parts of staircases, ladders and other
architecturalmillwork items, veneered interior paneling, flooring,
spindles and newel posts,wood turnings, broom handles, pallets,
ladder rails.
Produce:
Pacific Coast Hemlock sands smoothly, glueseasily, and has high
nail and screw holding ability. Its painting and
stainingcharacteristics are very good.
Western Hemlock has an even grain and resistsscraping, which makes
it easy to machine.
Usage:
Canada's Western Hemlock is used in home andcommercial building
construction, as well as in specialized wood products.Compared to
other species, Hemlock's strength and stiffness make it a
preferredmaterial for use in horizontal components and longer
spans.
